Opening Speech

Prof. Dr. Ernawati Sinaga, M.S., Apt.

Universitas Nasional. Indonesia

Prof. Dr. Ernawati Sinaga is a Full Professor in School of Biology Universitas Nasional, Jakarta, Indonesia, and now serves as Vice Rector for Research, Community Services and Collaboration, and as Director of Center for Medicinal Plants Research in Universitas Nasional. In addition to her experience as a researcher and an educator, she also serves as Secretary General for Indonesian Women for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. This organization focus on training young people, especially young women and girls in water conservation and health-related life style. Prof. Sinaga received her PhD from Department of Chemistry University of Indonesia with research emphasis on molecular biology of drug delivery conducted as joint research with Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, USA. She received her Master degree in Biomedical Sciences and her Bachelor degree from School of Pharmacy from University of Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia. As a pharmacist, her research interest lies in a broad area of traditional medicines, ethnopharmacology, and pharmacology of natural products, especially focus on investigating and evaluating medicinal potency of biological natural resources.

Keynote Speakers

Prof. Ilya Raskin, Ph.D.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, United States

Prof. Raskin earned an international reputation through his work on plant growth regulation, plant immunity to diseases, phytoremediation, and, in the last decade, for his research in plant-derived functional foods and medicines. He is also actively involved in international bioexploration and conservation. Prof. Raskin’s research is featured in over 200 scientific publications and in numerous popular press articles. He has been listed as one of 108 most cited researchers in Plant and Animal Science (Institute of Scientific Information). Among his most cited scientific publications are four cover articles in Science and Nature. Prof. Raskin was awarded 20 patents covering the discoveries made in his laboratory. Prof. Raskin has received a number of prestigious awards, including the Albert Shull Award for outstanding contributions to plant biology and the Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award for revolutionary product innovation and scientific breakthrough. Prof. Raskin was named the Century Innovator in Botany by the U.S. News & World Report.

Having joined the company in 1972, he has played a pivotal role in transforming Sido Muncul into a nationally and internationally recognized herbal healthcare company. In addition to overseeing the company’s overall strategic direction, he is responsible for marketing, corporate communications, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Under his leadership, Sido Muncul has consistently driven innovation, strengthened corporate governance, and enhanced the global competitiveness of Indonesian herbal products.
